AGREEMENT TO PROMOTE THE ACADEMIC COLLABORATION AMONG MEMBER INSTITUTIONS OF THE ISJACHEM


ISJACHEM promotes this agreement in recognition of the benefits of scholarly interaction among the institutions. The official representative of each institution authorizes this agreement. Through the education in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, it is our goal to serve our society with justice and to protect the environment with the work of all our members, students, faculty and other members. All institutions found benefic to initiate cooperative activities for the following purposes:

Article 1 - Student Exchange
a) The institutions will accept each other’s qualified students, either undergraduate or graduate, for continuing their studies at the proper department for one or even two semesters. Preferentially there will be an equal number of exchanged students from each university. However, exceptions to this rule can be made.

b) Credits earned at the receiving University will be accepted by the sending University with the prior approval of the dean of the college/faculty/department in which the concerned student is enrolled.
c) Exchange students will pay tuition to the parent university. Travel, living, medical insurance and other expenses will be the responsibility of each student. The receiving University, however, will assist them in locating appropriate housing.

Article 2 - Faculty and Researchers Exchange
a) The institutions will welcome and promote the exchange of professors and researchers. They will also provide library privileges and office space. Each institution will assist the visiting professors and/or researchers in locating housing.
b) The parent institution will pay the salary of exchange professors, who may have the opportunity to teach in the host institution. However, other arrangements can be made for special circumstances by either of the signatories.
c) The parent institution will assume the transportation cost of professors and/or researchers.
d) The exchange staff will be responsible for assisting with information about living, medical, housing costs and other expenses unless the sending university provides support.
e) The institutions will negotiate the financial terms for each exchange. This negotiation will depend on where the exchange will take place, either in the receiving institution or in a company.

Article 3 - Joint Research
The institutions will promote joint research projects and make the results available to those interested in their respective communities.

Article 4 - Academic Collaboration
The institutions will collaborate to improve specialized curriculum and criteria of qualifications in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering fields.

Article 5 - Infrastructure Support for Academic Projects
The institutions are encouraged to maintain a list on a web page of their technological resources and laboratories, so that resources available at a particular institution can be shared with other institutions.

Article 6 - Academic Collaboration for Curricular programs
The institutions will share their study plans and will work together to design new academic programs in the fields of mutual interest.

Article 7 - Information Diffusion and Co-editions
a) The institution will carry out the necessary actions to organize joint academic activities such as seminars, colloquia, symposia, workshops, short courses, meetings, etc.
b) The co-edition of articles, books, essays or divulgation texts will be promoted through the Association or among the interested institutions. The responsibilities and costs of these co-editions will be negotiated among the participating institutions.

Article 8 - Scholarships for Excellent Students
The institutions will promote a scholarship program for top students to allow them to carry out graduate studies in any of the participating institutions. The institutions involved in the student exchange will have to agree on the competence of each candidate. The scholarship will cover all the tuition fees.

Article 9 - Consultants and Services to International Companies from ISJACHEM
The participating ISJACHEM institutions will organize an International Group of Consultants to provide consulting services for industry. A small international group will be formed to develop each project and the institutions involved will be chosen depending both on their scientific and technical capabilities and on their geographical proximity to the company involved. The economic resources obtained from these services will be distributed according to the work that each participant institution has done.

Article 10 - Entrepreneur’s Program
The institutions may participate in the design of a program to help students develop new companies in the areas of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The criteria of distribution of the benefits obtained from specific contracts will be the same as in Article 9 of this agreement.

Article 11 - Professional and Industrial Practices/Visits
The institutions will facilitate the placement of students from other members in professional and industrial experiences at their community.

Article 12 - Joint Thesis Committees
The institutions will help to form inter-institutional thesis committees when demanded.

Article 13 - International Aid Programs
Institutions are compromised in helping others to get funds for strengthening faculty’s labor, developing of academic programs, promoting innovative research and financing other projects.

Article 14 - Expansion of Agreement
Each institution realizes that the above-mentioned areas of cooperation signal only the beginning of their cooperative efforts. As their relationship develops and strengthens, the agreement, with the consent of the representative of each institution, may be expanded to embrace other areas of cooperation.

Article 15 - Evaluation and Termination
This Agreement shall be evaluated every three years. The first period starts the date of its approval by all institutions. It may be terminated by all the signatories with a written notice one year before its conclusion.
